Youve probably heard it said about getting ahead in life that it isnt what you know, its who you know. While there is a certain amount of truth to that claim, I can assure you there is a great deal of truth in this statement: Happiness depends on your ability to stay connected in retirement. Quite simply, numerous studies show that people who withdraw from life and from connections with others are not only miserable in their retirement years, but they tend to die sooner than people you stay connected in retirement.

It is always easy to postpone doing things; and this doesnt change when we retire. Staying connected is one of the most important things people need to do after retiring. Fortunately, this is not difficult. No matter how shy you are, and no matter how much of a loner you are, you need to stay connected to life, to the world, and to at least one or two other people. We dont have to become isolated or lonely in retirement. We just need to stay connected.

Here are a few ideas to help you stay connected:

Consistently watch one news broadcast each day at least. This is one way to stay informed about the world and your community. It also gives you topics for conversation with other people. Keeping up with the news also keeps you informed of new developments and the like that can make your life better.

Have a conversation with at least one person who is important to you each day. It really doesnt matter so much whether the conversation occurs over the telephone or face to face. The important thing is to stay in conversation with someone every day. Whether you discuss world news or childhood memories, the conversation is good for you.

Write a letter (not an e-mail) to someone each week. Take the time to actually connect with someone by taking the time to sit down and write a long letter. Write about what is happening in your life, your family, your thoughts, and your feelings. Not only will the letter brighten someone elses life, you will probably receive a response that will brighten your life.

Find an exercise buddy. We all need exercise. Whether you choose to walk or engage in some other physical activity for exercise, it will be more fun if you share the experience with a friend. You can discuss many things on a daily walk, or even at a pool or a gym or spa.

Volunteer to help others. There are many people around us who need help with things. There are people whose only contact with others is a conversation with the meals-on-wheels delivery person. There are children who need to be taught or just need to be loved. There are many organizations that rely upon volunteers to carry out their mission. Not only will you stay connected with other people, you will know you have done something to help someone, and that will feel good.

Join a group or club. Regular get-togethers with other people who enjoy the same things you do, are great fun. Whether you play cards, mah jong, dominoes, chess, checkers or bunko; whether you share bird watching experiences or take in a movie or a show together, you are spending time in conversation with people with whom you share interests.

Remain or become active in your church, synagogue or mosque. You can be assured that you share basic beliefs and values with the people you meet there. You will also find ways to help others, teach others, and contribute to a better world.

Learn to do something new. Whether you take computer classes, dancing lessons, or you audit a course at the local college, learning something new keeps your mind sharp, puts you in contact with others who have similar interests, and opens up new possibilities for social, business or educational activities in the future.

Try these tips to become connected and stay connected in retirement. You will be happier, healthier, and you can make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Most of us use color printing in one form or another every day. Most of us, however, have hardly a clue as to how the process actually works.

Technically, color printing is the actual imitation of a particular image or word using color. Throughout the printing world, it is known as the \”four color process\” since this type of printing usually uses the four main printing colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black). Though the four color process is most commonly used, a newer process called the \”six-color process\” is now starting to gain popularity.

In order to replicate an image or text in color, the original document must first be split into red, green, and blue categories. Interestingly, prior to digital imaging, images could only be separated by taking a series of photographs in order to split the colors evenly - thankfully, the digital age has eliminated this process! After a file has been split color wise, it must be inverted. Once each color has been inverted - the method of inversion actually changes the color to its subtractive primary - the screening procedure begins.

Screening involves semi-transparent inks that are often placed on top of one another to create different color hues. When an image is being screen by way of a printing press, the image is changed to create small dots as opposed to large areas of opaque ink. You see, color printing is actually a complicated process, which is why it took so many years for the very first company to develop a digital printer that could do it.

Even though most of us take color printing for granted, out world would be rather bleak without color copies - don\’t you think? Imagine an environment filled with black and white images that appeared as lifeless as they actually were. Luckily, we do not live in a world of monochromatic color, and it is here to stay.

Let\’s face it, our world is simply bursting with different colors, which is why the color printer is so very crucial to our everyday lives. Though it is a process more complex than you might have thought, the world is just a better place when color surrounds us.

If you own an air conditioner, then it is safe to say that at some time in the future you will need air-conditioning repairs. There are a few different things that can go wrong and some are very easily repaired. For example, if your air conditioner is not cooling, but is still running it may just need cleaning. Before you start, find your owners manual. If you cant find it, then you can request one from the manufacturer. Try to pick a fairly warm day for the repair because this will give you a better idea of why it is not working.

Before you start your air-conditioning repairs, make sure the power to the unit is turned off. You should be able to find a shut off panels for this. If you cant find this panel then shut off the electricity to the house itself. Make sure you rake any debris away from the outside condenser.

Now you can start to find out what the problem is by removing the grill cover off the condenser and clean the fins by using a soft cloth and brush. You have to be careful not to damage the fins as this can be done very easily. Vacuum them out after cleaning. Now unscrew and lift up the cover of the grill, but be careful. The fan is attached to some of them and you dont want to pull any wires loose. After cleaning, you can hose out the fins, but protect the motor with some kind of waterproof covering. If you think the motor needs lubricating, now is the time to do it. Now put the unit back together. This is the easy part of air-conditioning repairs.

To test your air conditioning repairs, turn the power back on and let your unit run for a few minutes. Place your hand on the pipes that connect to the condenser unit. One of the pipes should feel warm and the other should feel cool. If its still not working, then you probably need the refrigerant recharged and this will require a professional.

If your air conditioner doesnt go on automatically, there are a few steps you can take to check this out. First, make sure that your thermostat is set to cool and below room temperature. You should also check to see if a fuse is blown or the problem may be a tripped breaker on your main panel box. Make sure that the power switch on the furnace is turned on and also the condenser switch on the outside unit. You can also check to make sure the 240-volt disconnect, which is next to the compressor outside, hasnt been turned off. These are some steps that will help you with air-conditioning repairs.

Any air conditioning repairs you can do on your own will certainly help your budget and can be spent on other problems that may arise where you cant repair your air conditioning yourself. The repairs above are straightforward and you should have no problem in completing them. If you run into difficulty, contact the manufacturer. They hold a world of knowledge about the products they make and may be able to contribute some useful information for the problems you face while doing the repairs.

Sciatica can be helped, it can at times be helped by you and other times you need help. There are 3 things you need to know so you can understand what you can do or whether you need help.

Sciatica is often confused. It can be a serious condition or it may be an irritation that is easily corrected. How do you know? If know the answer to three questions, then you can decide whether you can correct your sciatica yourself or you need to seek help from a structural specialist.

The questions are as follows:

1. How far does your sciatica travel?

The sciatic nerve can be irritated in the lower back, pelvis and as a result of muscular tightness in the buttock. If you have lower back pain and pain travels out to the buttock, this can still be sciatica. It is just a lesser form and easily corrected with various lower back stretches, exercises and joint techniques. If your lower back pain travels down the leg to your foot or ankle, then obviously the sciatic nerve is irritated at a greater level. The further your sciatica travels, generally speaking, the worse the condition. In these situations professional advice and treatment is indicated.

2. What type of sciatic pain to do you have?

Pain type is indicative of severity. Most people with sciatica will experience pain, it may be a gnawing, and toothache feeling or it may throb or shoot down the leg. Others will have a numb feeling and some may experience the muscles not holding their strength. If you look at the type of pain, you can see how serious it is. Nerves, when irritated, exhibit definite pain patterns. The outer fibers of the nerve create what is called paraesthesia which mean altered sensation. You may experience tingling, the gnawing feeling and a sensation of numbness. The numbness is a sensation not a reality. You can check this by pinching the area or using a pin prick. If you still feel pain with these then you have paraesthesia not true numbness.

The deeper layers of the nerve then cause the sharper, definite pain. The deepest levels will cause actual numbness and loss of muscle power, strength and endurance. If you experience symptoms of the deeper layer disturbances, then professional help is essential. The lesser pain types can be usually corrected with many self help exercises.

3. How did your sciatica happen?

If you have had a fall or injury then sciatica needs attention. Sciatica at times is caused by disc injuries and spinal conditions that relate to joint instability. These need to be assessed and treated accordingly. Although the majority of sciatic nerve irritation comes after situations that appear completely normal. Your normal daily activity should not cause sciatica, however a build up of tension can lead to sciatic nerve problems.

If you have not had trauma, if your general health is generally okay, your sciatica will most likely respond to some simple self help techniques you can use at home. It can ease and disappear quickly but as the saying goes .if pain persists see your doctor . Sciatica is common and easily corrected. If you fit the criteria of caution, then be cautious and seek professional intervention. Otherwise correct your sciatica yourself with some simple and easy sciatica techniques.

Most people feel the lure of day trading: seeing the frenzy on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, grabbing onto the tail of a skyrocketing stock, and earning your millions. They want to start day trading and find the answer to that famous quote from the movie Wall Street: \”How many yachts can you water-ski behind?\”

Unfortunately, the vast majority of these beginner traders want to see results faster than it takes to watch the movie. In fact, about 90% of beginner day traders are knocked out of the game within the first few months.

The good news is that this fact can easily be addressed. Just about all of those who crashed and burned did so because they didn\’t have a plan. If you take the time to develop a plan and learn how to trade, you stand a much better chance of making that top 10% of day traders who go on to successful day trading careers.

Here are five things you need to know before you start day trading:

1. Is Day Trading Right For You? - This seems like a basic question, but you should seriously evaluate your trading personality. Will risking that much money make you nervous? Can you afford to lose money in the stock market? Are you financially - and emotionally - prepared to leave your job and co-workers behind you? These and other questions must be answered before you go any further in planning your day trading career.

2. How to Control Your Emotions - What most beginner day traders don\’t realize is that trading psychology has a huge impact on your success - and the market likes to play with your mind! There are many different emotions that come into play, but it boils down to two main dangers: fear and greed. It is vitally important you learn how to control your emotions before you try to tackle the market.

3. How to Develop a Solid Trading Plan - If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. And yes, it really is that simple. A solid trading plan will include details like determining what type of trader you are, your trading strategies (see below), what products (stocks, e-minis, etc.) you will trade, what software you will use, even your entry points, exit points, and stop loss points. The more detailed your plan, the more likely you are to have day trading success.

4. What Kind of Trading Strategies You Will Use - There are many trading strategies that will help you succeed at day trading. As a beginner trader you will probably be best served learning one or two to start with. For example, the Bull Trap is an easy type of momentum play for beginners to learn that allows you to predict a trend reversal, and cash in by following the momentum. But there are many different trading strategies; the key is finding the right set of strategies for you.

5. How to Develop a Business Plan - You should approach day trading as a business, not a hobby. Even if you plan to trade just part time, make sure you develop a full business plan that covers all the financial basics like how much trading capital you have, what your short-term and long-term financial goals are, developing cash flow statements, etc. You should also decide how you will work: where your office will be, what time you will be in your office in the morning, what daily preparation you will need, etc.

Learning these five things won\’t guarantee that you will become a successful day trader. But if you start day trading before you find out these answers, you most certainly won\’t get too far.

Additionally, once they obtain coverage, they don\’t review it to see if the amounts need updating. Here we\’ll cover some basic things you\’ll need to know about life insurance.

You\’ll need insurance coverage if someone depends on you financially. If you\’re married and/or have children, you will need some type of coverage to provide ongoing income to them in the event you\’re no longer there. This money typically does not have to go through probate and your family or beneficiary should be able to receive it quite quickly. Life insurance policies can typically be used for retirement purposes as well. Even if you are currently single, this is the best time to consider having an insurance policy for long term financial planning. Many plans include a convertibility option that allows you to convert your policy at a later time without proof of insurablitiy. As life insurance premiums are based on your current health, locking in a low rate while your young and health will save you in the long run.

Solicit the help of a professional to help you determine coverage amounts. In determining the coverage amount you\’ll need, you\’ll have to know what your current expenses are and what your expected expenses will be. You\’ll also need to plan for special expenses such as college funds and retirement years to make sure your coverage is adequate. There are many sites on the internet that can help you calculate these figures, but you\’ll still want the help of a financial professional to help you figure out what\’s necessary. They can provide ongoing financial planning efforts such as increasing coverage and determining suitable insurance products.

Determine the type of insurance coverage you\’ll want. There are basically two types of insurance - term and permanent. Term life insurance covers you for a fixed number of years. Often offered at a lower cost than permanent insurance, term insurance makes sense in short term situations. Permanent insurance allows you the ability to gain cash-value often in a tax-deferred situation. While costs are higher, they offer flexibility. You can take out a loan against your insurance policy\’s cash value and enjoy stable premiums and guaranteed coverage at the same time. Within the scope of permanent insurance, there are four different categories - whole life, variable life, universal life and variable universal life. It is recommended that you check with your insurance agent or financial advisor to determine which is best for you.

Determine how you will purchase your life insurance. Life insurance can be purchased in three basic ways - through a financial professional, at work or directly from the insurance carriers. Life insurance purchased through a financial professional (insurance agent or financial planner) is the most highly recommended option since they will be able to answer any questions you might have. Additionally, they can act as an ongoing resource for you. If you plan to purchase your policy at work, you\’ll have to keep in mind that you won\’t be able to take this policy with you once you leave the job. Also, your retirement compensation package may not include this. Lastly, you can also purchase your policy through the internet direct from a carrier. Most often, only term life insurance is able to be purchased this way. If you already know what you need, this may be a suitable option; however, if you are new, you might consider contacting an insurance agent before purchasing.

Life insurance protects your family in the event the unimaginable takes place. You can rest assured that your family will have an adequate supply of what they need when you choose the right insurance coverage.

With colder weather approaching soon, it\’s time to think about warming our homes. In addition to a standard furnace, if you are looking for a more energy efficient way of heating your home you may want to consider a heat pump.\r Heat pumps not only are an excellent heat source, but they can dramatically reduce heating costs. Here are some things you should know about a heat pump.

Basically, a heat pump is sort of like your air conditioner in a way, only reversed. The coils on the outside are cold and the ones on the inside are hot. So, the air that is drawn in from the outside mixes with the hot coils and heat is moved inside your home.

One of the major drawbacks with using a heat pump is that it is electric. Therefore, if you are using natural gas or propane to heat your home you may not save as much money in the long run due to the increased electric costs.

But, if your home is electric, using a heat pump is the way to go. You will definitely save on energy costs as well as increase heat and air conditioning capacity. This is because a heat pump will heat your home twice as much using the same power as a regular AC unit.

The most important point to keep in mind is choosing the correct size of pump. They are not a one size fits all system. As a rule of thumb, a normal home uses a 3-5 ton capacity unit to heat and cool the home.

You will definitely want to shop around and compare prices, as well as energy efficiency ratings. Once installed though, a heat pump will certainly pay off in time. It will leave you wondering why you didn\’t do it sooner.

You can find out more about Heat Pumps as well as much more information on all types of heaters and heating systems at http://www.Heaters.InfoFromA-Z.com

I have diabetes plus a lot of the complications that accompany it. That doesn\’t mean that I don\’t live a \”normal\” life. I just have to take the responsible steps for my daily care that my disease requires.

Here are some tips from an \”old pro\” on living with this disease.

1. Find a meal plan that you can stick to. Learn to count your carbs and proteins for each meal, each day. Buy cookbooks covering low-fat, low-carb and sugar-free recipes and cookbooks specifically for diabetics. Read through them and try some of the recipes out. They\’re really not that much different than \”normal\” and before long you\’ll be eating healthy, smart and loving it.

2. Exercise with an activity you enjoy. Join a gym, a softball team, or a bowling league. Go walking, hiking, swimming or just walk in place in front of the TV. Get motivated! Start to move some everyday and increase the time your at it. A great benefit will be losing weight as that can make a big difference in your treatment plan.

3. Plan your eating and medication around your exercise time. Some people find that eating a light carbohydrate snack about half an hour before exercising is a good idea. Likewise, you need to eat about the same time each day to help keep your blood sugar levels from spiking or going to low.

4. Wear a medic alert bracelet. It is vital that you be identified as a diabetic in case of a medical emergency.

5. Be prepared. Always carry a snack with you such as hard candy, crackers or glucose tablets. Remember to always have your monitor, insulin and any meds with you in case you should need them.

6. Have a social life. Eat out in restaurants but just watch what you\’re eating. Avoid huge portions by splitting the dinner with someone else at the table or have the waiter box half before bringing it out. Have a glass of wine if you want. Just don\’t overdo anything. Remember to work the \”social\” carbs and proteins in with the \”regular\” carbs and proteins you\’ve had for the day.

7. Stop smoking and avoid secondhand smoke. Diabetics have twice the risk of heart disease as the rest of the world. Don\’t take an extra risk with your health by smoking.

8. Live for today. Spend as much time as possible with your loved ones even if the quality is not as good as in the past. It makes for cherished memories all around.

Living with diabetes can be anything you want it to be-hard or easy, simple or complicated. By following the steps above along with the information found here you can live a rich full life for years to come.
